Air Classifier Mill

The Air Classifier Mill is an integrated dry-process ultrafine grinding system combining impact pulverization with built-in dynamic air classification. Widely deployed for NCM (Nickel Cobalt Manganese) ternary cathode material processing, it delivers stepless fineness adjustment, narrow particle size distribution and exceptional agglomerate dispersion capability. An optional ceramic-lined grinding chamber minimizes metal contamination, safeguarding the high purity critical to lithium battery cathode materials. The mill can be seamlessly integrated with precision classifiers, low-contamination conveying systems and coating modification equipment to form a complete closed-loop NCM cathode material production line.

How It Works

Technical breakdown of the core processes and technology behind Air Classifier Mill.

Calcined NCM powder feeds into the grinding chamber via the feed valve, where high-speed rotating impact discs apply controlled impact, shear and collision forces to gently disperse sinter-derived soft agglomerates while precisely regulating primary particle size distribution and strictly controlling D97 / Dmax oversized particles. Airflow conveys the ground NCM particles upward to the integrated turbine classifier. Fine NCM powder meeting specification passes through the classifier and is collected by cyclone separator and bag dust collector, while oversized coarse particles are centrifugally returned to the grinding chamber for re-grinding, creating a continuous closed-circuit grinding cycle. Optional water-cooling jacket for the grinding chamber supports temperature-sensitive processing requirements, particularly critical for high-nickel NCM materials, preserving consistent powder morphology, tap density and electrochemical performance while preventing surface oxidation.
